Thousands march across the country demanding Trump release his tax returns

On April 15, thousands of people in48 statesparticipated in Tax Marches, nationwide demonstrations that called on President Donald Trump to release his tax returns.

The marches – organized by a coalition of 70 progressive groups – took place three days before the deadline to file taxes in the US (April 18). Trump has so far declined to release any of his tax returns, claiming that they are under audit by the IRS.

Most presidents since the early 1970s have released at least one year’s-worth of tax returns, but Trump is not legally required to do so.

The Tax March is expected to be one ofthe largestnationwide demonstrations since January’s Women’s March. From Washington, DC to San Francisco, there are predicted to be over 150 Tax Marches across the US.

… and to inspire people to call their representatives and ask them to put pressure on Trump.

There were over 150 marches planned in cities and towns across the US.

The official, nationwide mascot of the Tax March is a chicken.

A few Trump supporters also showed up to protest Philly’s march.

A tax return would show how much income Trump made in a given year, what he claimed in deductions, how much he paid in taxes, his business’ profits and loses, as well as any foreign business ties.

Presidents are not required by law to release their returns, but every president has done so voluntarily done so since the early ’70s.

Some states are proposing legislationthat would mandate that presidential candidates reveal their tax returns in order to run.


Trump has said he will not release information about his taxes because many years of his returns are already under federal audit.

“We’re marching on Washington, DC and around the country to ask Donald Trump: WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?,” the Tax March’s site reads.

The organizers also told The New York Times they hope their march will help underscore the need for people to pay “their fair share.”
